Legendary golf course architect Robert Trent Jones, Jr., has left his mark on Auburn as the lead designer and innovator behind two of our courses, one of which, the Winchester Country Club, has been hailed as one of American best residential golf courses by Golfweek. The nearby Sierra foothills provided a perfect landscape of streams, meadows, elevation challenges, and, of course, woods and trees to challenge golfers and to distract them with sensational natural beauty. Other top names in golf course design, such as Keith Foster, have also left their challenging imprint in these hills, with the Darkhorse Golf Club being showered with awards, including Golf Magazine’s Top 10 in America Public Courses.
